Conversion Factor The Conversion Factor (CF) for a currency measures how much local money it takes to equal $1.
To convert a figure in ecus into another currency, multiply the figure in ecus by the CF for the currency.
For example, the Swiss franc has a CF of 2.1. $1 equals 2.1 Swiss francs. An item that costs $100 costs 210 Swiss francs.
To convert a figure in local currency into ecus, divide it by the CF. For example, if a fancy personal
computer crafted by the techno-gnomes of Lucerne costs 3,200 Swiss francs, it costs 3,200 divided by 2.1, or $1,524.
The three ecu currencies, the neodollar, eurotaler and rubyen, all have a CF of 1.00. But not all ecus are
created equal, and they have different rates of flux.
Conversion Factors aren't essential. They are included for background color. In game terms, all that
matters is the real value of the transaction in ecus. But when a fixer has to lug a barrel of Serbian balkis (1,200 balkis = $1) to a
meet in Krusevac, it makes life a little more interesting.
Money Games
Rules for fiddling with exchange rates and the uncertainty of fiscal stability are discussed because this
is a staple in many cyberpunk settings. The GM may decide this is far too much bookkeeping, and scrap the whole idea. He can
also set flux rates at his own whim, without referring to dice rolls. We do recommend keeping the basic currency exchange, rather
than putting the whole planet on ecus, or some other arbitrary currency. That's a lot too orderly for the
Edge, livewire.
When Not to Make Flux Rolls
As a rule, trivial transactions, less than $100, should not require flux rolls.
However,theGMmaydecidetocallforaflux rollforsmallpurchasesonceinawhile,just
tokeepplayersfromgettingentirelycom-fortable.Nothinglikehavingasmartcaban-nounce,“Thatwillbe10Neodollars,8 Class-AKeiretsuMarks,or12U.S.dollars …adjustment…13.5 0U.S.dol…ad-justment.. .14.7 5U.S.dollars,please.” Anyonepayingin“fold,”realhardcopy cash,canskipfluxrolls.Thatappliesto moneyprintedbyagovernment,scripcer-tificatesfromamajorkorp,oranykindof non-electroniccurrency.However,ifachar-acterconvertsfoldintocred(deposits hardcopycurrencyfortransfertoanelec-tronicaccount),heshouldcheckthefluxat thattime.

Psionics: Uncommon, but known, developed, and actively researched. Genetics: Uncommon, can engineer new lifeforms to a limited extent and readily clone people. Magic: Rare, but known; not well developed as it is much harder to artificially engineer. Cybernetics: Common, well known and well developed.
Genetic Therapy
Genetic therapy involves the use of biomodification serums that essentially attempt to make lasting modifications to the genetic structure of the person involved to engender a specific positive effect or cure a specific negative effect. Depending on the manufacturer, of course, they may have some known side effects or may have only temporary enhancement capability.
Recombination and You
In a controlled clinical setting, doctors administer biomodification serums in carefully controlled increments, so that problems can be detected early and potential damage can be minimized. In back-alley serum labs, however, you're likely to be presented with a needle and instructions for usage, and little else.
When a gene tonic is administered, the lucky recipient makes a roll vs their HT plus any modifiers listed on the tonic's description, with effects as listed.

Bionic Heart
Your heart has been replaced with an electronic heart that pumps blood with controlled efficiency, resists 'heart attacks' from any nonelectrical source, and acts as a biomonitoring system to measure blood contents.
Upgrades
Top of the Line: These advanced-model cybernetics are still at the bleeding edge of technology - in a good way. They have a bonus to resist cybertampering (not as many known exploits) and perform better than 'standard' parts.
Discounts
Refurbished: A refurbished model has been returned to the manufacturer for replacement at some point and been given a clean bill of health; however, it is almost always used goods, and sometimes still has lingering problems.
Used: This is used goods, plain and simple - hopefully simply resold to the manufacturer after use rather than forcibly extracted, but if you're desperate, you won't ask too many questions other than 'it still works, right?'
Legal: The goods you're using have been altered or modified in order to meet with law enforcement requirements. Usually, this reduces performance or capability. However, it also reduces resistance to cybertampering, and means that you can legally use this cybernetic modification without police interference or requirement for a permit.
Backdoor: While in most cases backdoors are by their nature not divulged to the public, known backdoors may lower the value of a commodity on the black market. Having a backdoor in your equipment means that with proper research someone can gain an automatic success at cybertampering for the purposes the backdoor was made for, whether it be an equipment lockdown for facilitating law enforcement or transmitting an active feed of everything you see to the Secret Ray-Banz Eyewatch stations.
Rigged to Blow: Your new toy comes with a nasty explosive surprise that can be triggered to detonate by a specific method - usually as a way of keeping employees in line. Replacements inflict 6d concussive damage to the poor sucker and anyone around them when they explode; implants inflict x5 damage to the victim (since they're inside them, after all), likely killing them as well as terrifying and harming those around them.
Shock Factor: The electrical system of your new cyberlimb is deliberately wired so that an unscrupulous individual with the right knowledge can cause you immediate, incapacitating pain by triggering it. Often combined with Rigged to Blow to ensure compliance from the noncompliant.
Cybertampering
Have you ever thought about someone being able to use their cell phone to open your car doors without your permission? Now imagine if they could do the same thing to shut down your arms while driving and you'll get an idea of the real hazards of cybertampering. As a rule, cybertampering involves attempting to use exploits or legitimate overrides against the poor schmoe with the limbs of steel.
Fleshbots
A now-common practice of contracting out your body for a set period of time. The person contracted receives a free and secure Chip Slot. The contracting company then creates custom personality chips with skill packages. Then they turn around and lease out the newly created Fleshbot to customers for a set period of time and a high price tag. The Fleshbot ends their contract with no memory of their contract time and a large sum of money for their time.
Powerstones
Gemstones imbued with magical energy. Synthetic gemstones do work perfectly well, much to the chagrin of traditionalists, lowering prices dramatically.
