Random Events

Random events are separated by category and trigger at determined intervals to keep the round fresh and interesting. There are three types of random events: Mundane Events, Moderate Events, and Major Events. Each of these three types is independent of the other two, which mean that their timers are not intertwined. E.G: A major event occurring will reset the next-event timer of the major events, but not the Moderate and Mundane.

Mundane Events

Cooldown Timer: 3 minutes

These are mundane things that don't dramatically affect the station, but may be of benefit or distraction to its crew.

PDA Spam

Ever wondered how Titan Corporation manages to fund so many space stations? One answer might be in allowing small businesses that feed on people's stupidity spam their PDAs en masse at random intervals of time. Even though ranked as a Mundane Event, most crew agree that the onslaught of Spam is a major threat to sanity.

Lottery Victory

One of the crewmembers has won the lottery! Check the closest newscaster to see if you're the lucky person! Of course, station command will most likely confiscate the money for security reasons, but hey! You did win!

Account Hacker

A bruteforce hack to one of the station accounts has been detected, and a warning has been issued on the station's messaging server. Quickly suspend the account in question before you lose your hard-earned money!

Mundane News

Did a celebrity die? Or did he release a new movie? Or was it both and that cargo vessel crashed into a movie theater premiering said celebrity's movie? Any and all news that the depressed crew most likely doesn't care about will be coming to the newscasters near you, today!

Trivial News

What's better than Mundane News updates? Trivial news updates with little to no information contained in the vaguest of headlines! Brought to you by the Galaxy's finest reporter!

Economic News

One of the only pieces of news relevant to the operation of the station, these news, reported by the CBN Daily; discuss the increase and decrease of supply point prices of supply crates. Riots ongoing somewhere? See Security crates from cargo skyrocket in price, while the sale value of minerals goes down!

Lost Carp

A bunch of space carp were on a field trip studying space, got separated from their group, and got lost in the vastness of space. They decided that their time would be better invested munching at the crewmembers of the NSS Exodus, instead of panicking. 1 to 6 carp appear in this event.

Brand Intelligence

Undoubtedly another way of raking in extra revenue at the expense of crew members; somehow a virus got installed on some vending machines, making them wildly market their products, to the extent of throwing them at unsuspecting passerbys, literally! Fix the affected vendors, before it spreads to all of them.

Vermin Infestation

The Janitor was never good at his job. Which is why, sometimes; spiderlings, mice, or lizards breed somewhere in the station, wreaking havoc in the ranks of the germophobes.

Wallrot

Once more, thanks to the general incompetence of the Janitor, some fungus-like substance is spreading on the walls of the station and eating them inside out. Have Engineers fix it before the wall separating your bathroom stall from your angry boss evaporates into thin air!

Space Dust

A small cloud of space dust is headed toward the station, undoubtedly to cause horrific minor damage to the station's exterior windows!

Camera & APC Damage

The long years of 24/7 operation have taken their toll on some of the camera and APC equipment on the station, causing them to break down and stop functioning until an Engineer is sent to rectify the issue.

Moderate Events

Cooldown Timer: 10 minutes

Carp School

Rememeber those lost carp? Well, the rest of the field trip found them and decided to make an unplanned adjustment to their schedule. It seems NSS Exodus crew members are on the menu! 12 to 16 carp appear in this event, in small groups; for remember, they're on a field trip!

Rogue Drones

While NanoTrasen incessantly tries to rip you off and underpay you, they never got around to upgrading their perimeter drones with the money they saved. One of the drones patrolling the surrounding of the NSS Exodus is malfunctioning, and is now rabidly hunting crewmembers to exterminate. Hide behind Security until Nanotrasen technical teams finally get a lid on their toy.

Meteor Shower

Assuming the Chief Engineer didn't get the meteor shield installed, then congratulations! Nanotrasen's excellent and patent-pending autopilot system drove your station's orbital path right into a meteor field! Assemble towards the center of the station, and away from the most likely impact zones.

Communication Blackout

The random shrills of that annoying hormonal person in cargo itching your ear all the time? Then this malfunction is for you! NanoTrasen's perfect communication relays need a breather, and decided to stop working mid-shift to go take their coffee break. Time to go back to bounced radios, old school!

Prison Break

Apparently, the architect behind the Titan ROME security networks spent a good time of his life in prison, for he decided it was wise to make the doors leading out of the brig as faulty and insecure as the galaxy's politicians. Scramble to contain the prisoners as the doors leading out of their new home bolt open. Time to scream at that AI again…

Grid Check

Titan is the light of our lives! Which is why they undertake random and sporadic power grid checks, reminding the crew that without Titan, there is no light. Deep, is it not?

Electrical Storm

Stand and watch in awe as light tubes and bulbs explode into millions of tiny pieces of glass, plunging you into darkness. Hassling the Janitor to come replace the broken light would be a good idea at this point.

Radiation Storm

The station's autopilot system has showcased its superior abilities once more! Scramble to sheltered maintenance shafts or dormitories to escape the lethal rays now piercing the station at every level.

Appendicitis

Something in the water on board this godforsaken facility is making your intestines expand. It feels like something is about to burst out! Worry not! It's just appendicitis! Rush over to medbay and undertake Surgery before you really die! It'll be a pity surviving all the other adventures this company threw at you to die in such an uneventful fashion!

Viral Infection

Okay, now you're sure there's something in this water! You can't stop sneezing and coughing and twitching! The perfectly sanitized station has arranged a meeting between you and a virus. Head over to a Virologist to find out more about this exciting relationship!

Spider Infestation

Remember those spiderlings that were breeding in the Vault that no one cared about? Well, now they're grown up and have families of their own! Did I mention they also have a taste for blood? Call Security and cower, as usual.

Ion Storm

“Ion storm detected near the station. Please check all AI-controlled equipment for errors.”

Space is such a wonderful thing, isn't it? So wonderful that a simple ion storm can alter the way the AI on board this station works. Expect the unexpected!

All AIs aboard the station receive a random, glitched law. These laws are listed as maximum (glitched) priority, and can range from the humorous to the bizarre to the downright dangerous. It might be funny to listen to the AI act under the belief that it is Scottish, but it deciding that the human operating temperature is 300 degrees Celsius is decidedly less amusing. Fortunately, AIs can be reset or repaired to fix most ion corruption.

Mass Hallucinations

Everyone begins hallucinating for a short time! Doesn't even have a CentCom notice. So if it happens to occur, expect a portion of the crew to begin hunting for changelings.

Space Dust

A more severe cloud of space dust is on its way to the station. Expect this more formidable cloud of dust to cause far more damage to the station's hull than its mundane equivalent.

Clogged Vents

“The scrubbers network is experiencing a backpressure surge. Some ejection of contents may occur.”

Air scrubbers around the station may suddenly erupt smoke clouds of whatever chemicals and reagants the system has absorbed, and even a few things it hasn't.

Major Events

Cooldown Timer: 30 minutes

Carp Invasion

Remember that Carp field trip that decided to visit you? Well, now their parents are here, and very angry that you let them board the NSS Exodus without consent forms. Angry carp everywhere! Too much to be counted! Hide!

Viral Outbreak

When unsanitary goes to pure filthy on-station, an extra-resilient and extra-lethal virus rise out of the dirt and filth to plague the crewmembers into quarantine-induced panic.

Blob

One of the 'special' residents of our big great home that is Space, Blobs know no obstacle and will make the station its home if it wants to. Well… No obstacles except fire.

Meteor Wave

“Meteors have been detected on collision course with the station.”

Venture into the thickest meteor belt the star system has to offer! Cower for your life in central areas of the station as explosions rock your ear drums.

Meteors begin to spawn on the outer edges of the map, hurling across space! These are capable of dealing heavy damage, if not instantly annihilating anything they collide with. Capable of even releasing the singularity with a few bad hits!

Space Vines

Miss the firmness of earth, forest and jungle in the deepness of space? Fret no more! Thanks to the baffling property-altering radiation of space, vines not only now grow in space, but swallow and trap anything that stands in their path. A battalion of scythe wielding Engineers, goats, or scientists will do just fine in showing the vines the customary ROME hospitality.

Wormholes

“Space-time anomalies detected on the station. There is no additional data.”

Wormholes start appearing randomly around the station for several minutes. Going into one of these wormholes will teleport you to a random location. Sometimes you might be lucky enough to wind up somewhere good. Sometimes you might find yourself out in the middle of space.

If you have no intention of taking the gamble, you should move around the station in Walk mode. Wormholes that spawn directly on you will not warp you, so remaining perfectly still will ensure your safety. But take care not to let someone push you into one!

Immovable Rod

“What the fuck was that?!”

Something of a humorous physics joke, an immovable rod will travel through the station in a straight line causing reasonable amounts of damage to the structure and killing anybody unfortunate to be in its path. They take some time to travel through the station, make an immense amount of noise, and as such are avoidable to players with quick reflexes. They will often open up secure areas, resulting in looting.

Unsorted

These are random events that occur during a game regardless of gamemode. They have a relatively low chance of occurring, and are often (but not always) accompanied by a broadcasted message from CentCom. Some may only occur after so much time has elapsed during a round.

Alien Infestation

Minimum round time: 20 minutes

Chance of occurrence: Low

“Unidentified lifesigns detected coming aboard <station name>. Secure any exterior access, including ducting and ventilation.”

One or more alien larva spawn in random locations aboard the station, their players pulled from ghosts with the role enabled.

Anomalies

Minimum round time: 20 minutes

Chance of occurrence: Above average

“<Anomaly type> detected on long range scanners. Expected location: <area name>.”

A random type of anomaly spawns in a random location on the station! These tend to cause bad things if left alone. So hop to it! To neutralize an anomaly, grab an analyzer from a toolbox and a remote signaling device. Scan the anomaly with the analyzer, then send the signal with the frequency shown! This will neutralize the anomaly and leave behind a core, a relatively valuable item for research.

The anomalies will move around, so a bit of hunting may be necessary if it happens to stray from its location.

Types of anomalies

Unstable bluespace anomaly

If left unchecked, it will eventually detonate, warping every object in the area into a random location. Virology may end up in space! Tech storage may suddenly appear in the security wing!

Research from core: Bluespace 5, EMP 3, Power 2

Localized hyper-energetic flux wave

If left alone, it will eventually erupt in a violent explosion.

Research from core: Power 5, Data 3, Plasma 2

Atmospheric anomaly

Creates plasma fires!

Research from core: Plasma 5, Power 3, Biotech 3

Gravitational anomaly

Pulls and flings objects everywhere nearby.

Research from core: EMP 5, Power 4

Localized high-intensity vortex anomaly

The rarest of the bunch. Consumes objects and creates hull breaches. Nasty!

Research from core: Materials 5, Combat 4, Engineering 3

Blob

Minimum round time: 1 hour, 20 minutes

Chance of occurrence: Low

“Confirmed outbreak of level 5 biohazard aboard <station name>. All personnel must contain the outbreak.”

Not to be confused with the blob game mode. A blob spawns in a random location on the station.

Brand Intelligence

Minimum round time: 20 minutes

Chance of occurrence: Low

“Rampant brand intelligence has been detected aboard <station name>, please stand-by. The origin is believed to be a <vendor type>.”

One of the machine type specified in the CentCom notice has become sentient! If not stopped, it will begin to spread a virus to all other vending machines, causing them to animate and attack anything in sight!

The origin machine can be any of the vending machines in the station, from the soda machine in escape to the cigarette dispenser in the captain's office. It will shout aggressive speech at anyone nearby and launch products at anything in sight. To stop it and prevent it from infecting any other vendors, it must be either deconstructed or its wires all cut, or just simply screwdriver the panel open and flick the speaker switch to off.

Camera Failure

Minimum round time: ??? Chance of occurrence: ??? One or two random cameras around the station will be deactivated.

Carp Migration

Minimum round time: 10 minutes

Chance of occurrence: Above average

“Unknown biological entities have been detected near <station name>, please stand-by.”

Space carp spawn around the station. Take care and have a good weapon handy when heading out into space. And watch yourself when around windows!

Communications Blackout

Minimum round time: 20 minutes

Chance of occurrence: Very High

“Ionospheric anomalies dete'fZ\\kg5_0-BZZZZZT”

Telecommunications goes down temporarily. The crew isn't often alerted of this, but the AI always is. Sometimes confused due to crew incompetence with the Ion Storm, detailed below.

Disease Outbreak

Minimum round time: 20 minutes

Chance of occurrence: Low

“Confirmed outbreak of level 7 viral biohazard aboard <station name>. All personnel must contain the outbreak.”

Get your asses in gear, medbay! A virus has somehow made it aboard the station. Could be the common cold, could be the confusing space retrovirus, could be the crippling brainrot.

Due to the similar CentCom alert, expect many confused/dumb crewmen to fill communications with cries of “WHERE'S THE BLOB?” or “LYNCH VIRO.”

Electrical Storm

Minimum round time: 10 minutes

Chance of occurrence: Very High

“An electrical storm has been detected in your area, please repair potential electronic overloads.”

A bunch of lights short out in a general area on the station. Annoying at best. But at least it gives the janitor something to do other than mop blood trails.

Ninja

Minimum round time: 1 hour

Chance of occurrence: Average

A Space Ninja spawns. 'nuff said here.

Prison Break

Minimum round time: 20 minutes

Chance of occurrence: Average

“Gr3y.T1d3 virus detected in <station name> imprisonment subroutines. Recommend station AI involvement.”

All the lights in the brig blow, and all the cells and brig doors are bolted open, making a clear escape path for all inmates! The AI and cyborgs can get the doors shut quickly, but hacking will do in a pinch.

Radiation Storm

Minimum round time: 20 minutes

Chance of occurrence: Average

“High levels of radiation detected near the station. Maintenance is best shielded from radiation.”

Everyone caught outside of protected zones is subject to a hefty dose of radiation. If you're particularly unlucky, you might get a bad mutation, or an extra strong radiation pulse. If you're lucky, you might get a genetic power!

Shuttle Loan

Minimum round time: None!

Chance of occurrence: Average

CentCom takes control of the Supply Shuttle and recalls it for some purpose they state in the announcement.

Cargo Bay can decide whether they want to loan the Supply Shuttle to CentCom for 5 minutes through the Supply Shuttle Console.

“The syndicate are trying to infiltrate your station. If you let them hijack your shuttle, you'll save us a headache.”

A number of syndicate mobs come aboard the supply shuttle when it next comes. Have security arm up to take them out and safely confiscate any weapons they bring with them.

“A group of angry russians want to have a party, can you send them your cargo shuttle then make them disappear?”

A number of armed and angry Russians, plus a bear or two come with the next supply shuttle. Kill them for some sweet duds!

“The Spider Clan has sent us a mysterious gift, can we ship it to you to see what's inside?”

The next supply shuttle comes loaded with giant spiders, nasty!

“Seems we've ordered doubles of our department resupply packages this month. Can we send them to you?”

The next shuttle comes loaded with a variety of free goodies. Sweet!

For the trouble, CentCom gives a good amount of free supply points in return.

Space Vines

Minimum round time: 20 minutes

Chance of occurrence: Below Average

A plant which spreads extremely rapidly around the station. Space vines will grow thicker with time, first getting thick enough to block vision, then capable of entangling people. You can resist entanglement, but it is safer to avoid the vines. Airlocks, fire doors and windows will stop their growth until someone opens them. If in an open area, the vines will continue to expand until they engulf every space not blocked off!

To fight the vines:

Drag a goat, either Pete or one ordered from cargo into the vines. It'll eat any vine it passes into, and even quickly consume them on its own so long as there's any nearby.

A scythe from a weed control crate is effective.

Plant-b-gone spray from botany and weedkiller grenades from cargo are also good options.

Fire will also kill vines dead. Not recommended, as it will also kill anyone unfortunate to be caught around it.

Spider Infestation

Minimum round time: 20 minutes

Chance of occurrence: Very Low

“Unidentified lifesigns detected coming aboard <station name>. Secure any exterior access, including ducting and ventilation.”

A number of spiderlings, along with a good chance of their mother spawn aboard the station. The babies will eventually grow into adult giant spiders, so smash them while they're vulnerable!
