Let's Go Shooting

This mod is about weapon ammunition (energy weapon ammo is covered under Energy Management); namely, it's about making it, using it, and killing people with it. Or, you know, subduing them, if you're into that sort of thing.

Ammunition Calibers

The wide variety of ammunition calibers available to load your weapons with.

Ammunition Types

Everything from your typical lead bullet to uranium-jacketed exploding-core rounds of violent hatred towards humanity.

Lead Bullet

Your standard dose of lead poisoning, as prescribed by the NCR and other authority figures to neutralize indigenous hostility. Apply vigorously for best effect.

Hollow-Point

Designed to deform on impact for massive damage to flesh, this inflicts more damage, but DT is increased against it. As such, hardened targets are less vulnerable.

Armor Piercing

Designed with a hardened jacket for piercing armor, this blows through DT more easily, but inflicts slightly less damage as it doesn't fragment or deform upon impact.

Active Uranium

Inflicts radiation damage over time (which can heal ghouls), hard-hitting but prone to fragmentation.

Depleted Uranium

Hard-hitting and has a small rad effect.

Nuclear Option

Generates a small nuclear explosion at the target site. Not very effective given its size, but still impressive.

Devastator

Explodes on impact, which can be very deadly if the round penetrated armor.

Ammunition Components

These are what makes a bullet, and as such, an ammunition type generally has a formula for what ratios are used - a standard lead bullet might have X, Y, Z as requirements, and an armor piercing round might require 2X, 1.5Y, 0.5Z.

Ammo components:

  • Casing - What holds the bullet and propellant.
  • Primer - What sets off the propellant.
  • Propellant - What actually launches the bullet.
  • Jacket - The outside of the bullet itself.
  • Core - The inside of the bullet.

Casings are usually made of brass (with junk rounds being one obvious exception). Jacketing may be nothing or an outer metal layer to aid in penetration, core is usually lead or lead filled with something else, propellant is usually powder (like gunpowder), primer is usually a different type of powder (like lead azide).

Caseless Ammunition

Propellant Casing is the development behind 'caseless' ammunition; the bullet is essentially encased in its own propellant, which is commonly triggered with a reusable electronic firing mechanism instead of using a primer. In this way, making caseless ammunition only requires an appropriate ammo mold, a bullet, and the propellant.
