CharLoft RPG: Suggestions for New Game Mechanics
This section contains player suggestions for Game Mechanics, and can be edited by anyone. Nothing here is officially part of the game yet, but may be used for testing purposes by GMs.
Esteem
Characters who are in long-term relationships with other Loftians could have an Esteem quality. Interactions with other chars (who could be specified by the player, or the GM) would affect the Esteem score. It would work along the lines of The Sims' “friendship” score: there could be a short term and a long term score, reflecting the immediate events that had happened and also the long term relationship. Positive interactions would increase the Esteem score, negative interactions, or long periods of lack of interaction, would decrease it. A character who was held in high Esteem by another would be more likely to receive help or favours from them. In adventure gameplay, an Esteem bonus of some set amount, say, +2 for Esteem level of 10-30, +5 for Esteem level of 30-70, or +10 for Esteem level of 70-100, could be added to a char's Influence score when trying to influence a particular char. Similarly, chars who were currently in negative Esteem would receive a handicap to influence attempts.
