Background Summary
Maxine Marie Haggerty (nee: Willferd) was born the middle child of a middle class family. Her mother was rather disappointed to find that “Max” was a bit of a tomboy who would much prefer to climb trees and tinker with things in her father's garage then learn to sew and bake.
Mother even worried that she might never find a husband, as she didn't have a boyfriend all through high school. But shortly after, while taking classes at the local university Pleasant U, she met Joe Haggarty. The two were crazy about each other, and had a lot in common. They were married after a whirlwind courtship.
When the war broke out, Joe enlisted and was sent overseas. Though the couple wanted children someday, they hadn't a chance to have any yet. Maxine didn't want to just sit at home and grow a victory garden, so she started factory work. Everyone, even her mother, praised her for her bravery in 'doing her part' - but it was more than just patriotism for Max. She really enjoyed her job.
When her husband was killed in battle, Max was devistated. She threw herself into her work and became a bit of a recluse. She was afraid to get close to anyone lest she lose them too. At work she had a reputation for getting the job done- and being able to fix just about anything that went wrong on the line.
She was promoted to shift suprivisor. Most of the factory workers were happy for her, but some few bad eggs were resentful that a woman should tell them what to do. They make an occasional bit of trouble. Max has always hoped she'd be promoted further, but that doesn't seem likely to happen- especially with those troublemakers trying to make her look less competant than she actually is.

Determined, hard-working, and serious. Max is a loyal friend, but may take some time to warm up to you. She likes to tinker with things, and can wield a mean tool.
