Glossary of Terms
The following are terms of relevance to the CharLoft, and as such may cover a wide variety of worlds and topics.
B
- Barista. Origin world: CharLoft. The person responsible for running the counter at the CharLoft, a barista must be capable of handling customer service, brewing coffee, and serving up other forms of food and drink. Interestingly, most goods served by a barista (particularly foods) are acquired from under the counter, although a careful look reveals nothing but cabinets back there. The baristas work rotating eight-hour shifts, although a careful observer may note that these shifts are not consistently arranged.
- Boss, The. Origin world: CharLoft. The individual who 'owns' the CharLoft, and is responsible for its interdimensional connectivity, and by inference, for everything else therein. Possibly demonic, deitific, or simply very magically adept. Known for making (and enforcing) deals, usually not to the expectation of the recipient. Notably, often follows the spirit of a deal in addition to, or instead of, the letter. Seems like an ordinary 20-something with black hair, black eyes, black suit, white shirt, and blood-red tie. Tends to smile a lot.
C
- CharLoft. The CharLoft is the barn-turned-coffeehouse that is used by various interdimensional wanderers, trippers, and stumblers as a point of rest and relaxation.
D
- Darklings. Origin world: Our Last Resort. Vampires, demons, witches, lycanthropes, and other supernatural beings that have not signed up with the Guardians, targeted for extermination at leisure.
- Doors. (Capitalized.) The interdimensional points of connection between the CharLoft and other locations, named because they are typically solid doors whose framework serves as the opening for an interdimensional gateway.
F
- Friends. Origin world: Our Last Resort. Abbreviated term for 'Friends of the Guardians', a human outreach program that trains humans to become soldiers of the Guardian order; the best candidates are chosen to ascend to Guardianship. Often assigned to hunt down rogue Darklings for 'training purposes', or to deal with problems in human society. Blessed with a belief that they are doing their part to save the world, and generally known for fierce loyalty.
G
- Guardians. Origin world: Our Last Resort. An organization of vampires and demons that has assumed political and military dominance over much of the governments of Earth, and is planning on using its power to break the walls between universes.
O
- Origin World. The world of origin for a character, concept, or other glossary term of note. Generally referred to by name of campaign, if applicable; or by location, date, and qualifier(s), if otherwise.
- Our Last Resort. Origin world; game is played through http://community.livejournal.com/our_last_resort/ via journal postings. Focused on an alternate-universe Earth with overtones of the Buffyverse and other supernatural elements, in the year 2011. A race of superbeings, the Guardians, has emerged to guide humanity into a glorious new age free of terror and fear - a new world order, if you will. Can anyone hope to stand up to them before their plans reach fruition?
More will be added as time permits.
