The CyberGlove is a highly-advanced piece of computing technology that is worn on the right hand and is designed to interface with certain weapons and equipment, as well as having a nifty screen you can look at as easily as one might check a wristwatch. You can install modules on it, which make your life easier by giving you more options. You can steal CyberGloves or install disks from some dead enemies.
Protocol modules are generally required in order for categories of module to work properly. As a rule, they are called (name)Link, where (name) describes what it is the CyberGlove links up to.
Effect: Allows you to use HUD Helmets to view cyberglove info without using menus; this may grant combat advantages or simply provide very useful information.
Notes: Required for most HUD modules.
Effect: Establishes communications with remote locations.
Notes: Required for comm modules of every stripe; get a copy of this as soon as possible.
Effect: Module displays your current coordinates.
Notes: Requires at least three satellites to be within range in order to provide accurate data; satellites occasionally malfunction or travel outside of range. Required for most navigation modules. Signal strength may affect the capabilities of modules that rely on SatLink to function.
Requirements: SatLink
Effect: Provides an approximate map of the terrain in a 21×21 square centered around the user.
Notes: Does not show dropped objects, planted mines, or creatures, but does show fortifications, cities, and structures.
Communication modules usually allow you to (what else?) communicate with specific devices, or access particular public channels (Chans) or networks (Nets).
Type: Communication
Requirements: CommLink
Effect: Gives you information regarding the forecast for the area's weather.
Notes: In a world where storms can be radioactive and trying to kill you, knowing when to pack your anti-radiation slicker isn't a bad thing. Also, weather has an impact on satellite signals, which may give advance warning of outages.
Type: Communication
Requirements: CommLink, DropZone
Effect: Gives you access to the Rogue Shopping Network, where items go on sale every hour at discount prices. Items are delivered to the fortress currently designated by your DropZone program for a modest fee.
Notes: Not everything on the ShoppingChan is a bargain. However, they do have good deals, if you know your business, and they do not charge rank tax.
Type: Communication
Requirements: CommLink, DropZone
Effect: Gives you access to the Trader's Network, and lets you buy items from other fortresses or cities, which are delivered to the fortress currently designated by your DropZone program for a modest fee.
Notes: Although buying from TradersChan doesn't require you to be part of the Trader's Network, an unscrupulous trader may use the shipping manifests to track the location of your fortress if they want to go raiding. Just a thought.
Type: Communication
Requirements: CommLink, SatLink, WarpNet
Effect: Gives you access to the Portal Network, and lets you teleport to other fortresses and cities if you have a warp device on hand.
Notes: You are required to pay the teleport fee, if any, when warping to a fortress. You are informed of the locations of all fortresses participating in PortalNet, but not about their potential defenses or about the surrounding area.
Medical modules are typically used for personal diagnostics and analysis.
Type: Medical
Effect: Basic program that analyzes your physiological condition and translates it into a readable interface.
Notes: Required for most medical modules. Your Biorhythm output system uses your CyberGlove's sensors to analyze your personal condition, which will in turn give you information about your general status. Additional modules use the information provided by Biorhythm to give instructions, warnings, or more pertinent analyses, but asking to view the 'Full Diagnostic Output' screen will show you what Biorhythm is measuring by default: heart rate, blood pressure, sugar levels, caffiene levels, alcohol levels, levels of various chemicals, nutrient levels, oxygen levels, radiation levels, protein levels, hydration levels, calorie levels, fullness levels, exhaustion levels, muscle levels, fat levels, etc. It may also detect poisons, infections, diseases, withdrawal effects, and other potential problems that are disrupting your abilities and slowly killing you.
Type: Medical
Requirements: Biorhythm
Effect: Analyzes your biodata and recommends foods.
Notes: Like the gentle voice of Mother reminding you to eat your vegetables, the Dietitian module is always there to provide analysis of your dietary statistics and to recommend actions to take as a result. Granted, with the limited dietary choices available, this generally boils down to 'hey stupid, eat something!' However, you can choose via the Dietitian menu to automatically eat appropriately as recommended by the program while travelling.
