Russell is an older human male with long white hair and green eyes. He stands about six feet tall with an average build though not as sturdy as he used to be. He tends to dress plainly most of the time when not dressed in the vestments of a priest. He walks with a consecrated staff containing a holy water sprinkler and small embroidered ribbons inscribed with scriptures and appears to be missing part of one of his legs.

Master exorcist, very knowledgeable in scriptures, rites and ceremonies,multilingual (speaks seven languages counting fey), capable of reading and writing in fey runes, creation of holy water and oil, deliverance of sacraments, blessing of weapons, tinkering and weapon crafting, demon detection (causes headaches and nausea), skilled in the use of a staff as a weapon.

Staff of Saints - A heavily modified consecrated staff with a number of features. It doubles as his walking stick and can inflict heavy damage on a number of different kinds of creatures such as vampires, werewolves, demons and fey. The Staff of Saints is one of few weapons of human make that can completely immobilize Kayn just by touching him.

The Leprechaun - This 1977 Lincoln Continental has been well maintained and features a souped up engine along with various other upgrades with a tan convertible roof. And yes, it’s shamrock green.

Russell Ackerson was born in Dublin, Ireland but moved to the United States as a child with his grandparents to escape from persecution. He learned early that life was hard and that making an honest living was harder but nonetheless he was able to over the years become a priest and eventually the Archbishop of the Great Lakes region where he came into possession of a statue of the Archangel Gabriel that turned out to be a golem known as Kayn Von Einswald, a longtime friend of the Archbishop that over time learned about Catholicism from Russell. For years he answered directly to the Vatican as a slayer of monsters and bane of demons being given the epithet The Purger. He trained many priests and slayers over the years from Minneapolis where he was based out of but the advent of vampires going public left him conflicted seeing the plight of innocents that he was expected to strike down for existing.

Publicly he denounced them as demons but in secrecy he formed the Black Road, an underground smuggling network that allowed for supernatural creatures of non-demonic nature to get in and out of the country to escape persecution, doing this well after he friend and fellow priest William O’Reilly was excommunicated for refusing to obey the Vatican’s ruling. He was able to escape the Templar crackdown on sects branded heretics and send Kayn to O’Reilly for safe keeping but not without getting an infected cut on one of his legs. He’d later had to have his leg amputated below the knee using a fake name to escape Templar notice as he recovered. Traveling the country he eventually made it to Iowa where he hopes the student will give him sanctuary. Russell is gifted and cursed with demonic detection, he can physically see the aura of a demon and accurately deduce if a person is possessed or not though this is not without it’s price. He suffers from excruciating and sometimes debilitating headaches, most often three full days before a demonic event occurs.
