Name: Kayn Von Einswald

Species: Feytouched Golem

Gender identity: Male

Orientation: Unknown

Important Relationships: Archbishop Russell Ackerson, Aria Von Einswald

Description:

(Slightly outdated, as Kayn has gotten rid of most of the bulkier components and is gradually replacing them with other materials.)

This winged construct stands nearly twice the height of the average human. His body is warm to the touch and while it looks like mostly gold it doesn't feel like gold. His features are meticulously crafted and despite a face that looks like clean sculpted alabaster it can move as expressively as a human face. He has piercing red eyes and black markings that run down the sides of his face ending just before his mouth starkly contrasted with the pale white of the rest of his face.

From each of his shoulders hang a purple tapestry approximately seven feet in length and wrapped forward around his shoulders are smaller purple drapes, a total of three on each side. He wears a contoured headpiece with brown leather straps sitting on either side of his head giving them an appearance akin to a full head of hair though underneath the headpiece he has long white hair made from strands of fine silver wire with sufficient body to move and act like conventional hair.

His chest has a swirling red and orange vortex of energy swirling like a galaxy and these same fiery colors appear in lines of muscular definition across where his abdomen would be and along his arms and legs between the gaps of the armored metal. These lines pulse and glow in perfect sync with the pulsing of his core. His body appears to be sculpted to resemble armor and when stationary he emanates a ticking sound much like a grandfather clock without the hourly bell.

Abilities and skills:

Physical Parameters - Kayn has incredible strength, durability and functionally limitless stamina so long as his parts are kept in good working order and not overly taxed to the point of mechanical failure. He is not without drawbacks however and his agility is about as good as one might expect from a mechanical construct. While he is capable of running, jumping and climbing he is likely to be outrun by a fair number of the residents of Lake Harmony if not most of them. As expected he cannot swim but rather walks on the bottom of a body of water if he has to cross it.

Catalystic Converter - Kayn regularly consumes food like a living creature and 'digests' it into Catalyst, the magical fluid that powers his function. He is incapable of certain actions without a minimum amount of Catalyst being burned to fuel it and if he runs out of Catalyst completely he will shamble to a halt and eventually die without help.

Modular Body - Kayn’s abilities greatly depend on the parts used to construct his form and how they have been assembled together. For example, heavy machinery would enhance his strength at the cost of agility, stone would give his body durability at the cost of weighing him down, while precision clockwork parts would enhance the timing of his movements.

Enhanced Awareness - Kayn's clockwork components make him a walking timepiece able to precisely tell the time, date and perform tasks involving navigation, barometric pressure reading and knowing his current elevation in comparison with sea level and the various levels of the atmosphere. He always knows what time it is, where he is, how far underground or in the air he is and what the weather in his vicinity is most likely to be in the near future.

Concrete Gaol - Kayn is able to generate concrete over time sufficient to encapsulate his body well enough to completely hide him in plain sight. This is usually shaped to not resemble his true form making him difficult to detect when he is asleep. This ability is the result of his having assimilated pieces from both a cement mixer, a rock crusher and several metal canteens.

Mending Magic - Kayn is able to mend mundane items, objects, surfaces or materials by using fey magic. This ability works on things such as wood, stone and metal but does not work nearly as well on organic materials like flesh or bone. This is one of the last vestiges of his abilities as an earth fairy.

Expert Swordsmanship - Over the centuries Kayn developed his signature swordplay styles around the use of dual longswords and the double-bladed sword.

Ambidexterity - Kayn does not favor one hand over the other and as such neither is his dominant hand. Anything he can do with his right hand he can do just as well with his left.

Overclock - For brief periods of time Kayn can put himself in a state of overdrive enabling him to run faster and perform tasks involving strength and durability with improved vigor and efficiency in a manner akin to a human adrenaline rush. However, this is expensive on his Catalyst reserves, can only be performed for a few minutes per day, and can damage his mechanical components. This ability is derived from the combination of both his locomotive and clockwork components.

Heat Generation - Kayn’s core burns like a magical furnace and as such his body temperature is significantly higher than most living creatures, which makes him extremely easy to detect on infrared sensors. Depending on his temperament, his body temperature can achieve extremes of up to 500 degrees.

Wings - Kayn has a pair of heavy steel wings that he is able to use for gliding, short term flight or simply to shield himself or others from harm. These wings can be retracted into a more space-friendly state as curved blades across his shoulders from his shoulder blades though in this state they serve no real purpose other than taking up less space.

Umbral Sympathy - An Umbral entity seems to be giving Kayn assistance in finding his lost wife. Is it truly good-intentioned, or is this a particularly elaborate prank?

Important assets:

Core Crystal - This large blue crystal acts as a pump to cycle heated alchemical liquid called Catalyst through his body as well as filtering impurities out of the Catalyst and purging them through steam. The core crystal contained Kayn’s fairy body and soul, so long as it remains intact he is functionally immortal albeit potentially disembodied. It enables the animation of a body by ‘binding’ the pieces with artificial veins and capillaries from which Catalyst flow through.

Vorsehung and Fegefeuer - These ornate double edged swords each stand five feet tall and weigh about one hundred pounds. They are made of the same enchanted metal and gems as Kayn’s core framework and can be combined into the double bladed sword Stahl Wind doubling the length and weight of the sum of their parts into a ten foot tall nearly two hundred pound weapon respectively. The weapon’s names come from the German language, Vorsehung means providence, Fegefeuer means purgatory and Stahl Wind translates into steel wind.

Peculiar Silverwood Chess Piece - This chesspiece was dropped out of a tiny shadow portal to another place, and might be connected to something important. Even if the shadow entity was being untruthful, the wood itself is genuine.

Background:

Kayn was an earth fey born during the Dark Ages in the forests of ancient Germany during the Autumn months. As such his fey powers waxed during the autumn and waned in the spring. For centuries he lived among his kind but he was fascinated with the advent of clockwork, man made wooden carvings brought to unexpected life by gears and tiny moving parts. As technology advanced so too did the interest of the curious fairy.

Kayn found out that human invention had a dark side when during one of the coldest winters of World War 2 his physical body was destroyed by a Königstiger when it came barreling into what was left of the forest which had been devastated and blood drenched by artillery, bombings and rivers of fire. It wasn’t long after that a gigantic gem was discovered in a bomb crater and seized as a prize of the Nazi party. But it had other ideas as the train carrying it never arrived at it’s destination nor was it or anyone aboard it ever found.

Kayn had survived the loss of his physical form by accident but nevertheless his body and spirit were entombed in the crystal and when it first awakened it formed what was his first his core framework from the train engine, a stolen Dutch grandfather clock and the very same Königstiger that killed him, things being transported aboard the train along with several hundred pounds of steel, silver, gold and gems to give him the shape and form he retains to this day, derailing the train which killed almost everyone aboard. Once he fully awakened and regained his facilities Kayn formed a double bladed sword from raw materials and slaughtered the few surviving Nazis before vanishing in a snowstorm.

Wandering war-torn Europe was not easy and several times he was found and hunted until he realized that he would have to wait it out. But since he was no longer tiny like a fey he was certain to be noticed unless he found a way to hide. He came to the conclusion that he would hide in plain sight so he assimilated pieces from a cement mixer, a rock crusher and a box of metal canteens and encased himself in what he calls a concrete gaol, passing himself off as a statue which was then taken from Germany after the war ended. He would use this process numerous times over the years entering suspended animation and avoiding all but a select few humans as he found that not all humans were evil or destroyed everything they touched.

The details are unclear but he ended up in the possession of a priest after his most recent use of the concrete gaol, most likely because he was mistaken for a statue of the Archangel Michael and the concrete was painted then partially dipped in liquid gold. Unaware of recent events or the advent of vampire awareness Kayn has come to be in the possession of the church of Our Lady of Sorrows in the town of Lake Harmony where he has begun to stir from the coming of a blizzard…
