The National Army maintains its military forces along several major categories:
The Queen's/King's Knights: While this is unlikely to change anytime soon due to the lifespan of the queen, the title of course varies based on the current monarch. The Queen's Knights are heavily drilled and trained and are the most elite fighting force in Arinthal; capable of putting down uppity Glories when necessary.
Knighthoods: What do you do with the second son of your noble family? Send them out to become a knight and make something of themselves, of course. Knights often pay their way into training with the Glories until graduation, and then participate in the tournament circuits to amass wealth and respect. It's not quite as good as being born a rich heir, but it's a living!
House Guards: These are the personal private armies of noble families (and Astorian trade houses) within Arinthal's borders or on duty protecting said families while traveling. They range from strictly ceremonial guards to Glory-trained hardened regulars; the better one's Guard, the higher one's status is seen to be.
Town Guards: These are organized guard forces for towns or cities, managed in part by the queen (to make sure they are keeping up on taxes and staying under control; they will report suspicious activities and problems up the chain of management, as it were.)
Militia: The sole defense of villages, and often a part of towns and even cities, this is a voluntary army of citizens who have taken up weapons (sometimes tools of their trade repurposed as weapons). Morale is generally higher than among conscripts, especially as they are usually fighting for their homes and families.
Conscripts: The Queendom of Arinthal doesn't usually rely on conscription unless the need is extreme; the last Call to Arms was 150 years ago, and the casualty rate amongst Conscripts was roughly 40%.
