Alexander Michael Kingsley was born Alice Michaela King out in the Midwest near Chicago to James and Miranda King, a local politician and his wife. Mr. and Mrs. King did everything in their power to turn her into the ladylike politician's daughter. When they threatened to have her institutionalized, Alice knew it was time to leave.

At 16 she hitch hiked and train hopped her way across the country. Along the way she met Isaac Henderson, a young veteran who had lost his arm in the war. They became best friends, riding the rails and living free. It was during this time that Alice truly came into being Alex, from changing his look to getting new identity documents. Two years later, Alex and Isaac were walking back from the corner store when they were jumped by a local gang and Isaac was killed.

Wanting to get out of the big cities, Alex moved to Pleasantdale. He got his degree in social work from the local university before getting a job as a case worker at community resources. Now he is the assistant director; and while he still manages a few cases, Alex is the lead man in charge of a good portion of the city's social spending.
