are pre-set systems that maintain connections between a long chain of systems that do not retain logs. If a trace is cut off while within their network, the person doing the tracing cannot trace the originator outside of the anonymizer. This, of course, is one of the things that makes anonymizer networks prone to legal threats and pressure, but while they remain operational, they can be highly useful. Most anonymizer networks have hub servers (those that manage the network map) and route servers (those that handle routing). Route servers may be specifically configured for the purpose, or may be subordinated servers whose access credentials have been passed on to a hub server without the consent of the owner. ===== Access and Routing ===== Depending on your level of access, you can use a system as a proxy by having it transmit commands to another system for you rather than connecting to it directly. In fact, most 'direct' connections operate in this manner - a user connects to their ISP, their ISP connects to a local backbone server, the local backbone network connects to a regional backbone, the regional backbone network connects to a national backbone to one of the international backbones of Splitbit, and likewise in reverse order from national to regional to local to ISP to end user to connect to a target system. At every step, these transactions are logged and noted, allowing someone to check at a later point to identify who connected from where at what time, as well as to trace it back to a target. Furthermore, each user leaves behind a MAC address 'signature' to identify themselves as a unique user in the system, which in turn can identify themselves when connecting on other occasions. However, users can change the route their twisted trail in cyberspace takes. This is generally considered important when they are up to no good, though it also slows them down in terms of what they can accomplish. This is called proxying. The better the access they have to the target machine, the harder it is for someone to trace them back through the target machine and onwards to their own connection path. Connecting through multiple proxies increases the likelihood of evading passive traces, as adversaries may stop at the proxy service - especially if there are no logs. However, if someone knows to be watching your activities, this alone won't protect you! For example, the FBI has decided to keep an eye on the activities of Jonny Ritchards, a low-level hacker, because someone has tipped them off to his behavior. They monitor his connection, see him connecting to a known anonymizer platform, and now have probable cause to connect him with any activities that take place at this time - whether he happens to be responsible or not! ===== Region Locks ===== Some programs are coded to operate differently or not at all if run on an operating system in a particular region. This is known as a region lock, as it is generally used to restrict features - for example, a radio transmission control program might be region-locked to deny broadcasting in certain frequencies based on region to comply with local laws, or a country might refuse to sell a game unless its more violent content is censored out. ===== Jailbreaking ===== The humble art of overriding the software installed on a machine in order to gain control over it. Commonly used on communication devices and consoles to which the purchaser is given only partial control, in order to perform tasks or run programs that the device was not intended to freely allow. For example, a device that is normally intended to run applications only from a specific source might be enabled to run apps created by others, apps intended for other OSes, or run existing apps more efficiently, or to circumvent security measures intended to restrict its use. For example, a game console might be jailbroken in order to use its processing power to emulate other consoles, or a firearm's onboard computer might be jailbroken to play music through its speakers and to ignore remote shutdown commands that would normally disable it. ===== Railgun Physics ===== "Velocitas Eradico - Speed Destroys" 10.6 MW in one second sends a 3.2kg (7lb) object travelling at 2.4 km/s (5400 mph), per the 2008 naval railgun cannon test. 1 grain = 1/15 gram. A steel .177 BB-sized round shot (4.5mm wide) weighs approximately 5.3 grains, whereas a lead BB weighs 8.3 grains. Assuming 1/3 gram per shot, theoretically it would take 10600 KW / 9600, or slightly over one kilowatt-second to fire a .177 steel BB at hypervelocity (2400 m/s). By comparison, a normal air rifle fires a 4.5 mm BB at 150 m/s, a 9x19mm pistol bullet travels at 340 m/s, and a 5.56x45mm assault rifle bullet travels at 920 m/s. http://www.airgunningatlanta.com/Assets/images/ft_qa/pellet_weight_chart.html .177 = 4.5mm .20 = 5mm .22 = 5.5mm .25 = 6.35mm # grains * .06479891 = # grams # grams / .06479891 = # grains http://forum.rpg.net/archive/index.php/t-466634.html http://dnd.johnmasterson.com/dreambird/magrif.htm http://gamingballistic.blogspot.com/2013/08/gurps-ballistics-12d-range.html http://www.sjgames.com/gurps/Roleplayer/Roleplayer10/HitLocations.html http://www222.pair.com/sjohn/blueroom/modern.htm http://www.rpgjunction.com/gurps-firearm-damage-stuff-685017.html https://sites.google.com/site/anthonysgurps/causes-of-missing http://forums.sjgames.com/showthread.php?t=106006 http://www.sjgames.com/pyramid/sample.html?id=2794 http://forums.sjgames.com/showpost.php?p=1129622&postcount=1 https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/rec.games.frp.gurps/LGlUVlDOOIo http://www.serenadawn.com/Pathfinder-Gurps-Rules.htm http://basicroleplaying.com/basic-roleplaying/gurps-conversions-71/3/ http://gametable.pbworks.com/f/GURPS+-+4th+Edition+-+High-Tech.pdf http://www.airgunningatlanta.com/Assets/images/ft_qa/pellet_weight_chart.html http://www.slashdocs.com/nvwsqi/gurps-4th-edition-ghostbusters.html http://www.filecrop.com/GURPS-Low-Tech-4e.html http://img.7chan.org/read.php?b=tg&t=25335&p=p11985-12084 http://7chan.su/read.php?b=tg&t=25335&p=25839-25939 http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaign/gurps-the-town/adventure-log/browsing-for-death https://sites.google.com/site/anthonysgurps/logarithmic-damage http://www.palmen3d.com/blackops/index.php?folder=195 http://www.mindspring.com/~wombat3/archt.html http://images.wikia.com/gurps/images/0/0c/Gurps-Vampires.pdf --------------- Fixed?: Bulwark - 'Government Price is listed as List Price' -- because GSA price is above commercial due to discount 0%, and SIP won't accept that. A common way to kill vamps, using UV rounds, grenades, lamps, or other tricks. The implication is that a number of supernatural creatures are susceptible to ionizing radiation (by definition, light capable of tanning skin is ionizing), which is often used to sterilize tools and food, tying into the concept of supernatural creatures as plague carriers. It also means that someone should perhaps attempt to kill vampires with X-ray machines or plain 'ol depleted uranium. Vampires: more susceptible to radiation? Anchortex Corporation is a distributor of fall arrest systems, positioning systems, suspension systems, and retrieval systems as part of a comprehensive fall protection plan. Fall Arrest Systems are designed to halt a fall and distribute the fall-arresting forces over a large portion of the body, in order to reduce the chances of injury. This involves a full body harness and a shock absorbing lanyard, lifeline, or other means of securing the personal protection equipment to the anchorage point or attachment point, and requires an I-Beam, tie off strap, or other attachment area that will support a minimum of 5000 lbs. or more in order to meet safety requirements. Work Positioning Systems are designed to hold workers in place while giving hands-free access to the work area. Work positioning systems must include a secondary system for fall arrest in the event that the work positioning system fails. This generally involves a re-bar assembly or other connecting device for work positioning, and a full body assembly and shock absorbing lanyard connected to a proper attachment point for fall arrest should the work positioning system fail or when changing from one work position to another. Suspension Systems are designed to lower or raise a worker and support them while in this position, such as suspended scaffolds supporting workers on a building facade. Workers must be protected against falling should the work platform fail for any reason; if this is not built into the suspension device, it must be incorporated into the system as a separate item. Of importance, the anchor points for the suspension system and fall arrest system must be separate so that one failure will not lead to a catastrophic outcome. Retrieval Systems are designed to raise and lower workers into and out of confined spaces. Workers should be attached to a retrieval system prior to entering a confined space. If an accident occurs, the worker may then be pulled to safety by his retrieval system. Retrieval systems are often used in rescues, with consideration given for the time required to perform the rescue. Individual requirements may vary based on the needs of employees, but most systems use a tripod or similar system that can anchor 5000 lbs or more as an attachment point; a ladder, personnel winch, or work line enabling the worker to enter or exit the confined space; a suspension device for lifting or lowering a worker; and a full body harness connected to a lifeline or recovery winch, separate from the raising and lowering device, to serve as a rescue device in the event that it becomes necessary.
