His father was from a prominent Broadway acting family in New York, but had decided to retire early at the age of forty so that he could settle down and have children in a small town. Still, from an early age, it was almost like Roger Kendall was training his young son to be an acting great like him and those before him. However, Joseph happened to love it as well, so it wasn't all that bad. When Joseph graduated high school, he moved away to New York City, and it seemed like his path to Broadway was assured. He did quite well the first couple of years there, but then tragedy struck when both of his parents were involved in a car wreck, killing the both of them. His younger brother, Wesley, was still in school, so Joseph made the decision to give up a burgeoning career to move back to Plseasantdale and take care of Wesley. While, to the rest of the town, Joseph pretends that he was more than happy to come back, in truth he was miserable about it. A part of him even blames his parents for their own death. He drinks, mostly in private, to deal with his own misery. He does take part heavily in the local theatre, Pleasantdale Community Theater, and it helps some, but he'd still much rather be in New York City. He tries his best to hide his misery from his brother, but, when you live in the same house, it's hard to get away with it. ==== Mindset ==== If he weren't so upset by being back in Pleasantdale, Joseph would actually be a very fun person to be around. He tries to fake it in public, but sometimes he's just not terribly up to it. He drinks to feel better about his situation. ==== Quirks ==== When he's not drinking, Joseph has the slightest of tremors in his hands. He's highly embarrassed by it and tries to control it, but sometimes it happens anyway. He speaks with a slight New York accent that he picked up from his father growing up, and was reinforced by his time in the Big Apple. His personal life has always been...tempestuous at best. He was always attracted to boys just as much as girls growing up, but it was something that he knew to keep to himself or else. In New York, he didn't have to hide it as much when he was around his friends, but back in Pleasantdale, it's a big secret again. He was never good at picking partners, though. His love life was always full of serious highs and lows and serious drama. ==== Housing ==== He lives with his younger brother on the edge of town in a slightly secluded large home that his father built. ==== Possessions ==== Library full of books and plays Several cars that belonged to his father (Joseph couldn't even tell you the make and model of them) Constant supply of mints in his pocket (to cover up the alcohol breath) ==== NPC Relationships ==== Wesley - His teenaged brother who goes to the local high school. Wesley loves his brother and is grateful that he came back to Pleasantdale several years ago rather than pulling him out of school and moving him to New York, but he also worries about him because it's obvious to anyone in that household that Joseph is chronically depressed. He's fairly popular in school, and his friends regularly visit the house. If Joseph is home, he hides in his bedroom or the library. Thomas Williams - Joseph's driver. Between the drinking and the fact that his hands already shake a little, Joseph really can't drive. So, Thomas drives him everywhere he needs to go, and takes care of him when he's had too much to drink. The other actors at Pleasantdale Community Theater - He considers them friends and companions, but most of them don't realize quite the severity of his drinking problem. They mainly just think that he's a lively guy who likes to celebrate the opening of a play...and the closing...and the middle of rehearsals.
