====== Canonymity ====== The fourth wall seems to exist to be broken in CharLoft, although one would note that people will react to it in different ways depending on how they see their world. The baristas, in particular, tend to acknowledge the fact that certain characters hail from worlds inspired by literature, television, video games, etc. This generally leads to a situation known as Canonymity - where a character is under the assumption that nobody knows who they are, yet many of the other characters can easily recognize them as originating from a fictionalized world. It should be stressed that in CharLoft, the ultimate canon is reality itself. A character's band did not write 'Your Body is a Wonderland' (unless they are playing Jason Mraz) in all other worlds, even if they did in their own. The Master Sword is recognizable as the weapon used by Link of Legend of Zelda fame. Vampirism works differently in different worlds - one world might have 'game face' and flaming in the sun, where another might have translucent skin and a state of torpor in the daylight. And so on. Within the CharLoft, all canons are reasonably functional: vampires from separate worlds each follow the rules of their original homeworld, for example; mages from different worlds follow their home rules of magic; and so forth. Exceptions only crop up when a canonical figure threatens the safety of the area by their mere existence, at which point the Boss's will makes itself known (an 'air elemental' made of cyanide, for example, might be forcibly converted into something non-fatal to the inhabitants). Because CharLoft is an interdimensional stopping point, many of its inhabitants may find themselves, consciously or unconsciously, following certain rules inherent in their world -- these are known as tropes, for which I direct you to [[http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/HomePage?from=Main.Main|this page]] for more information.
